Es gibt diese Musikstücke, die man einmal hört, ausgezeichnet findet, sofort wieder vergisst und sich nur von Zeit zu Zeit erinnert. Niemals aber würde man auf den Titel kommen, denn vielleicht hat man den Track nur in einem Film gehört und ist dann doch vor Ende des Abspanns verschwunden, oder in einer Bar und hat vergessen nachzufragen. In Hautnah, ein ganz guter Film über postmoderne, urbane Geschlechterbilder, kommt der Song »The Blower’s Daughter« von Damien Rice vor. Heute wiedergefunden über Last.fm, Wikipedia und Bittorrent. Manchmal, aber nur manchmal, da mag ich dieses Internet ganz gern.

It is short after 6’o clock and it is time to provide you a first impression of my latest work. Since a few months I’ve been using Banshee to play my music. Due to some annoying glitches in Banshee (no proper gamin-integration, scrobbling is unreliable) I switched back to Rhythmbox. But I’ve missed one feature very badly: the recommendations plugin of Banshee provides you neat extra informations related to the artist you are currently listening to. But there was a way out: Rhythmbox provides simple Python bindings and so I’ve wrote my own plugin, which does the recommendations-thing for Rhythmbox. It is currently in a very early stage but works for me™. It is not time to create the 0.0.1-tarball, but it would be really cool if a few of you can test it. Just check out https://svn.usrportage.de/lastrhythm/trunk/ and copy the complete trunk-folder to /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/ and restart your Rhythmbox. It would be really helpful if you start Rhythmbox with rhythmbox -D lastrhythm to provide me a sensible output in case of crashes.

My plugin utilizes the fantastic PyScrobbler-code to access to Audiscrobbler-API. It uses the named arguments feature in Python pretty well to fire audioscrobbler-queries and is really handy to use.

Morgen Abend gibt es wieder meine wöchentlichen Charts. Ich warte inzwischen ja jeden Sonntag Abend gespannt darauf.

So, die Charts sind jetzt da. Kettcar, Johnny Cash und – ja – auch Justin Timberlake (Future Sex / Love Sounds ist unglaublich gut!) nehme ich auf meine Kappe. Clueso ist ein Artefakt, ich bin ja der festen Überzeugung, dass Musik und Erfurt nicht aufeinander passen. Metric solltet ihr alle hören (wurde mir von der zuverlässigsten Musikempfehlungsexpertin Caro zugespielt. Caro als Musiknerd ist sowieos mal noch einen langen Blogartikel wert). Die Frontfrau von Metric wurschtelt auch in der Broken Social Scene-Kolchose mit. The Verve liegt natürlich nur an »aus Versehen Rhythmbox/Banshee weiterlaufen lassen, während ich rauchen war« und von Saalschutz kann ich gerade mal wieder richtig viel Zeug hören.
Gerade fällt beim Schreiben auf, dass es schon enorm selbst-referenziell ist, wenn man erst ankündigt, dass man sich auf die persönlichen, automatisch generierten Charts freut und sich dann noch über diese Charts auslässt. Ich sollte das vielleicht doch lassen.

Ignoring the cloddy ambiguous meaning of the title I’m happy to announce two new plugins for Serendipity. As you can read in the forum (1, 2) and watch in the sidebar of my weblog, I’d written two new plugins for Serendipity. The first one, »Flickr badge«, displays your last images from Flickr in your sidebar. It uses the serialize()/unserialize()-based API provided by Flickr which is very easy to use with PHP. The other plugin displays the album, which was on »Heavy Rotation« in the last week. It uses your Last.fm-account to retrieve these information and Amazon to find an appropriate cover. You can find both plugins in the CVS-repository for Serendipity (1, 2) or install them via Spartacus. Please take care that you need at least PHP 5.1 to use this plugins as I decided to use the wonderful OOP-model of PHP 5.
