As proposed by Doug Goldsteinn (the guy who sometimes told FUD about us), the BreakMyGentoo-team will fix the GTK-useflag. So, from the users point of view, remember:
If you want to have GTK+-2x-support, USE=“gtk2” will do it
If you want to have old and crappy GTK+-1x-support, USE=“gtk1” will fit to your needs

published on August 28th 2005, 05:47:11 pmWill you also get around the following well-known problem:
I do not want to have GTK1-Apps, if there is some alternative around. So I propably set USE="-gtk1 gtk2". But if an app has no GTK2-interface, but only a crappy GTK1-Interface. What about this? Of course, I want GTK1 at this point, but I do not want to enable per-package-USE-flag for this…
Do you have a proposal for handling such things?

published on August 28th 2005, 05:54:33 pmI think the only way are per-package USE-flags. I don’t want to give a cent on the mood of the maintainer, classifying an interface as »good«, »crappy«, etc. (try to imagine myself as a KDE-maintainer, I think I will mark a lot of packages as »has a crappy UI« but I don’t think this would fit in the users need, don’t you?). So in general I hope, someday, we can get completely rid of the GTK+-1x-stuff. Do you have an example for an GTK+-1 application which isn’t ported yet and which you need?
