What’s that?
USE-flag «userlocales» for Glibc in Gentoo GNU/Linux is a nice feature. It preservers to build all the existing locales and offers the possibility to specify which locales should be built. For example the build-process of the glibc would be a lot faster. It also makes the build-process faster in general because you save a lot of work, during the build of every component.
How to Use?
Add the userlocales-USE-flag to your /etc/make.conf. Edit /etc/locales.build. If you want to have german and english unicode locales, add the following:
en_US.UTF-8/UTF-8
de_DE.UTF-8/UTF-8
Hint:
I have tried this some months ago and I had problems with this during the bootstrap. But now all works fine. I would recommend to use this.
